Exceptional vintage Native American handmade dancer doll, signed and dated on the underside of the original wood base:
“Effie Curley”“Billy Fast Horse”“5-12-77”
This 1977 figure features a hand-carved wood face and hands, elaborate feather headdress, colorful seed-bead headband and belt, beaded medallion necklace, hand-sewn red and blue clothing, feather accessories, fur-trimmed footwear with metal bells, and a carved wood dance accessory.
The Fast Horse name has documented ties to Oglala/Lakota Native American artistry, including traditional beadwork, featherwork and doll making. That documented artistic tradition, combined with the named and dated inscription on this example, gives the piece much stronger collector appeal than an unsigned decorative doll.
The craftsmanship is especially appealing, with extensive beadwork, hand stitching, natural feather elements and carved wood construction throughout.
