This is a vintage 1955 U.S. Army tactical dosimeter, designed to measure radiation exposure in the field. The unit contains a series of internal tubes and is operated by shaking and holding it vertically to obtain a reading. Its chemical indicator changes color from purple to yellow orange when exposed to radiation.
Measures approximately 3⅜" × 2¼" × ⅝".
