ORIGINAL 1928–1930 AMERICAN PHOTO ALBUM — 163 PHOTOGRAPHS — EARLY AVIATION / CHICAGO MUNICIPAL AIRPORT
Outstanding original late-1920s/early-1930s personal photograph album containing 163 period photographs, including an unusually interesting group of photographs documenting the early years of American aviation.
The album includes original photographs taken at Chicago Municipal Airport (present-day Chicago Midway), with contemporary handwritten captions identifying aircraft and scenes.
Aviation subjects include:
* Ford Tri-Motor at the servicing line at Chicago Municipal Airport
* Fokker Tri-Motor arriving “from the west” and unloading passengers
* Close-up photograph of a Ford Tri-Motor
* Lincoln biplane
* Several additional early biplanes/aircraft
* Two particularly unusual photographs of an aircraft marked “SPIRIT OF KINGS HIGHWAY” and “KINGS HIGHWAY M.E. SUNDAY SCHOOL”
* Additional airport and aviation-related photographs
The album also documents the owner’s travels and personal life during approximately 1928–1930, including Chicago, Illinois; Washington, D.C.; Albany/Cohoes, New York area; automobiles; buildings; recreation; friends and other period subjects.
One album page is specifically inscribed:
“Chicago Ill. Oct. 1929 – June 1930”
Other contemporary handwritten captions identify people, locations and aircraft, adding valuable historical context to the photographs.
The Washington, D.C. photographs include period views of the United States Capitol, Washington Monument and other landmarks, with automobiles and street scenes visible.
This is a single intact period album, not a modern compilation of loose vintage photographs. The photographs remain mounted substantially as they were originally arranged, many using period photo corners. The original handwritten captions have also been preserved.
163 photographs total.
The album and photographs are approximately 95+ years old and show age-related wear, toning, fading and other condition characteristics consistent with their age. Some photographs are stronger and clearer than others. There are also some empty photo corners/locations where photographs appear to have been removed at some point in the album’s history. Please examine all listing photographs carefully for condition and content.
An unusual opportunity for a collector of early American aviation, Ford Tri-Motor, Fokker aircraft, Chicago aviation history, Chicago Municipal Airport/Midway Airport, Golden Age aviation, vintage photography or 1920s–1930s Americana.
The album is being offered intact. Photographs have not been removed for individual sale.
Please review the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.
