Original antique Harper’s Weekly: A Journal of Civilization bound set from 1891, Volume XXXV / 35, in two large bound volumes.
This impressive late-19th-century set contains original Harper’s Weekly material with extensive period journalism and numerous illustrations, engravings, portraits, maps, ships, military subjects, city scenes, and other historical imagery.
The interior is very well preserved for its age, with clean, readable pages, sharp illustrations, and no writing or markings noted. No torn-out pages were observed in the sections examined.
The main condition issue is the original binding, which shows heavy age-related wear, deterioration to the spines and edges, and separation/detachment of the outer cover/board in places. The text block remains together, but the volumes are fragile and should be handled with care.
Because of the fragile binding, the books were not opened excessively or checked page by page in order to avoid causing further damage.
A wonderful historical set for collectors of antique newspapers, Americana, illustrated history, 19th-century publications, ephemera, or for restoration.
