Vintage 1930s Poker Set With 300 Clay Chips Embossed with the Four Card Suits: $89.00
This “Buy it Now” offering is for a solidwood poker chip caddy with a complete set of 200 1930s vintage clay/composite pokerchips embossed with the card suits; and an original vintage cardboard box containinganother 100 matching chips for a total of 300 chips. The chips are known to collectorsas Card Suits Embossed (PC-HM) and they are gorgeous examples of embossed clay-compositepoker chips prior to the development of modern plastics. The chips themselvesare valued at $1 each in Dale Seymour’s Antique Gambling Chips guide.
Thepoker chips caddy displays the set beautifully and it features a light woodwith a clear finish and brass carrying handle with slots for two decks of cards(not included). The set comes with a vintage faux-alligator leather covered cardboardcaddy cover. The original vintage cardboard box of chips is labelled St. RegisComposition Poker Chips and displays nice with the set as an example of 1930smanufacturing. The box itself has a shallow embossed pattern. The chips have anice weight and “ring” to them unlike the clatter of modern plastic poker chipsdeveloped in the 1940s. Theseare standard size 1.5-inch diameter chips.
Condition: Thecaddy is in very good used condition with only a few minor signs of edge, corner and surface wear. There is a slight separation of one of the laminatedjoints (shown in photograph) that does not distract from how well this setdisplays. The chips themselves are in very good condition with some variationin tone and patina. These clay chips are susceptible to edge dings and I expectthere are a few, but they are generally in great shape. The vintage cardboardbox is solid with only edge and corner wear; and some paper loss on top. The innerchip tray portion of the box is equally solid with intact corners and edges.
