When I opened the nut compartment I found cordage, stainless wire and scalpel blade. seems quite legit to me. Appears to be a really nicely shop made hollow handle, with swedged end and nicely made nut closure with o ring seal. it took machinery to swell the end so nut would fit. Not made in someone's garage. military machine shop probably. maybe on a ship. look at photos. it's the real deal. very well done handle joint also. person who did this was very skilled. this was not the first one he made. excellent eye for detail. skill always shows.
