Antique Jennings Brothers Manufacturing Co. Art Nouveau jewelry casket, model JB 980, dating to the early 20th century.
This ornate footed casket features raised carnation and floral decoration, flowing Art Nouveau scrollwork, a shaped hinged lid, and four decorative feet. The aged gilt-tone finish has developed an attractive patina that emphasizes the detailed relief decoration.
The underside is clearly marked “JB 980,” identifying the piece as a Jennings Brothers design. Jennings Brothers of Bridgeport, Connecticut was known for producing decorative cast-metal wares during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The interior is lined in blue fabric. The lining appears to have been replaced or reworked at some point and shows looseness, folds, separation and wear. The exterior shows age-related finish wear, patina, oxidation, discoloration and surface marks consistent with an antique decorative metal object.
The lid opens and closes on its original-style hinged construction, and the casket displays beautifully despite the interior wear.
A charming authentic Jennings Brothers piece suitable for collectors of Art Nouveau decorative arts, antique jewelry boxes, Jennings Brothers metalware, or early American decorative objects.
