We have word there is another version, which started being handed out possiblystarting in 2018?
This is the coin, which is awarded to each Airman upon successful completion of basic training therefore earning the right to be called, "Airman."
On the front it has the year theAir Force became a separate branch of the military, established 1947. In the center isthe traditional AF logo wings (Gen Hap Arnold wings), and theAir Force core values: Integrity First, Excellence In All We Do, and Service Before Self written on the outer edge. On the flip side, it hasmotto's Aim-High, Fly-Fight-Win. On the edge it reads, "AWARDED ON THE OCCASIONOF BECOMING AN AIRMAN." and "IN THE WORLD'S GREATEST AIR FORCE".In the center is has the modern Air Force wings.
The coin is 1 5/8 inches in diameter with epoxy over the wings/center of both sides. The same contractor made Versions 1 - 3 for the US Air Force. This coin is Version 3, circa 2012-2018? The Airman coin changed sometime in 2018, and a new contractor made the 2018 coin.
NOTE: There are a few different versions of Airman coins that have been handed out over the years since the 1999. If you are looking for an exact replacement for yours or buying for someone else make sure this is the proper one. We still sell the original/1st version as well at the website location below:
