A very sturdy portable steel strong box or fire box, probably made in France in the late 19th century. It was made to hold valuable items such as money, jewellery or important documents, protecting them from theft or fire. It is made out of sturdy steel plates and is very strong. It has an attractive hinged handle to the top. The lid opens with a sturdy hinge that extends along the whole length of the box. The inside is painted a dark red. The box comes with a working key ( NOT THE ORIGINAL) and the locking mechanism is still fully functional.
