Offered here is an original real photo postcard showing the dramatic flooding at the Wayne Knitting Mills in Fort Wayne, Indiana, during the Great Flood of 1913. The handwritten caption dates the scene to March 25, 1913, when the St. Marys and St. Joseph Rivers overflowed and inundated large portions of the city. Mill buildings on both sides of the street stand in several feet of water, with debris and submerged walkways visible in the foreground, capturing the severe impact on the industrial district.
The photograph is credited to Standish, a documented Fort Wayne photographer who produced some of the most important contemporary images of the 1913 flood. The postcard was mailed locally only two days later, on March 27, 1913, reinforcing the immediacy and authenticity of the view.
